SILENTLY WITHIN YOUR SHADOW, 14min, UK, Horror/Thriller
Directed by Scott Lyus

As their relationship grows, Lucette’s obsession for ventriloquism and her dummy Hugo starts to strain her relationship with Jace. To Luctette Hugo is more than just a dummy, he’s her best friend and represents her ambition as an artist, to her, he’s very much real.

Silently Within Your Shadow – Director’s Statement

Silently Within Your Shadow is my attempt at creating a story driven horror film, with strong characters, that doesn’t rely on blood and gore.

I wanted to dig into the heart of an artist, in our case a ventriloquist performer, and see how deep her love for her art ran; and explore the effects on her relationship with her boyfriend and the horror that provides.

-Scott Lyus

BIOS – CREW

Luke Asa Guidici, writer/director

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Luke studied cinema at San Francisco State University. After moving to Los Angeles, he’s worked as an extra, grip, editor, falconer, writer and director. For this film he drew upon his love of Calvin & Hobbes, his fascination with monsters, and a life long fear of creepy basements.

John Wynn, producer/vfx superivsor

John’s road to filmmaking started at medical school in Virginia. But a trip to LA, helped him realize his passion lay in entertainment. Nico van den Berg, director of photography

Born and raised in Baltimore, Nico traded coasts to study filmmaking at the Art Institute of California – San Francisco. He turned his passion from videoing friends skateboarding to being a cinematographer for short and feature length films. Nico still sprints up the basement stairs in fear of whatever childhood creatures lurk in the shadows.

Nathaniel Smith, composer

After growing up in Madison, WI – Nathaniel moved to Chicago to pursue DJing and obtain a master’s degree in music composition. His work has screened at film festivals around the world and on MTV, CBS, and ABC. Recently, he’s been seen outside movie studios with a sign reading “will compose for food.”

Pike FX, VFX

The creators of the monster vfx, PIKE FX is a high-end animation & visual effects boutique located in Studio City specializing in Visual Effects, CGI, 2D Animation, Motion Graphics, and Compositing. They strive for the highest quality of work in a relaxed, creative environment.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

TIME TO EAT is a short film about childhood imagination and the monster inside all of us. I wanted to make a film that could be enjoyed by audiences around the world – no matter what language they spoke. It was important that the story was universal as well, so I started with the classic idea of the “monster in the basement” then gave it my own little twist. It’s important that the protagonists in my films aren’t victims… I wanted them (and the audience) to recognize the strength they have, and use that to succeed. And of course, I hope they get a scare and a laugh out of it.
